Garden modelled on a picture rather than a design
Gardens for new build houses comprise a patch of turf and empty borders. Here the owner found a picture online that matched her space and taste. The landscapers followed that and then I added the planting.
The field of weeds we started with (pic above)
The subsequent new planting comprises a simple repeated pattern of ‘Strong Annabelle’ hydrangeas, Pittosporum ‘Golf Ball’ shrubs and ‘Phenomenal’ lavender. Eleaganus shrubs were taken from the front garden and replanted to fill space for now but may be removed later on in the year. A small hedge comprises Phillyrea angustifolia, which is evergreen with an olive-type leaf.
The beauty of this planting scheme is that in the winter there is still going to be plenty to look at as the shrubs are mostly evergreen and the hydrangea brown heads add visual interest.
The 6 new trees are all Sorbus aria ‘Lutescens’, ideal for a small garden, and a reclaimed apple tree thrown out by the site developers.
